Board of Education Announce Committee Appointments
PHILADELPHIA — The Board of Education announced today which members will serve on the Board’s proposed committees. The Board introduced the proposed committee structure at its public meeting on July 9, and during the meeting Board members expressed their interest in serving as a member or chair of the committees. Board President Joyce Wilkerson made the appointments, which are subject to the final adoption of the proposed committees at the Board’s next public meeting on August 16.

“Committees will provide us with many opportunities to partner with the Philadelphia community that we serve around key District governance matters,” said Board President Wilkerson. “We are encouraging the public and all stakeholders to participate in committee meetings.”
Board President Wilkerson announced tentative committee appointments for each committee as follows:
Finance and Facilities Committee

Student Achievement and Support Committee

Policy Committee

Board President Wilkerson will also serve as ex-officio member of each committee, except the Finance and Facilities committee where she will serve as a member. Membership on the Policy Committee represents at least one chairperson from each committee to ensure alignment and collaboration across all committees.
All committee meetings will advertised and open to the public. Meeting materials will be posted to the Board’s web page in advance of each meeting. The first meeting will be hosted by the Finance committee on September 6 at 10 a.m. Remaining meeting dates will be posted to the Board of Education website shortly.
About the Board of Education
The Board of Education is the governing body responsible for overseeing all policies and budgetary decisions of the School District of Philadelphia. Additionally, the Board of Education serves as the authorizer for all charter schools in Philadelphia. The Board is made up of nine Board Members who are appointed by the Mayor.
