Superintendent, Chief Financial Officer Issue Statements on Budget Approved by City Council
PHILADELPHIA — As Philadelphia City Council passed a budget Thursday, Dr. William R. Hite, Superintendent of the School District of Philadelphia, and Uri Monson, Chief Financial Officer, issued the following statements.
Dr. Hite:
“The budget passed by City Council and signed by the Mayor provides a majority of the funding that was in the Mayor’s initial proposal and gives the District balanced budgets for the next three years. I am thankful for this level of investment that will allow us to continue our progress and ensure Philadelphia students can learn and grow. At the same time, the budget does not include the full funding required, which means we need to continue to advocate for additional resources so we can address our known building improvement needs.”
Uri Monson:
“I am very grateful to our City funders for this significant investment. By providing recurring revenues and a positive balance for the next three years, this funding will enable us to build on recent progress and expand our investments in educating the children of Philadelphia. We will need to continue the discussions with all of our funders to ensure that we can completely eliminate our structural deficit for the long term.”
