Fire and Life Safety would like to take the time to remind all School District of Philadelphia, members of the importance of drills. Drills are vital to conduct in schools, places of work, and homes. They prepare us for a real emergency so we can stay calm and know what to do in the
event of a real emergency. If a fire starts in your home, you may have as little as two minutes to escape.

To prevent injuries or deaths in a home fire, follow these tips:

  • Install smoke alarms on every level of your home, inside bedrooms, and outside sleeping areas.
  • Test smoke alarms every month. If they’re not working, change the batteries.
  • Talk with all family members about a fire escape plan and practice the plan twice a year.
  • If a fire occurs in your home, GET OUT, STAY OUT, and CALL FOR HELP.
  • Never go back inside for anything or anyone.

As a reminder for school faculty, please have a hard copy of your drill records on your front counters for Licenses and Inspections, and Philadelphia Fire Department review in the event of an emergency.

Stay safe SDP!
