The District has joined forces with PhillyTree Plan partners, including the Philadelphia Parks & Rec (PPR), Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS), Fairmount Parks Conservancy, PowerCorp, and Sustainable Business Network, to create a safer and healthier environment for our most vulnerable communities. Through the US Forest Service Inflation Reduction Act grant, this team of partners will blanket the community with tree care and planting by maintaining our older tree canopy, planting young trees, caring for our parks, and building a trained workforce within these communities to steward their urban forest canopy into the future. The funds will target our communities facing the highest heat index and environmental justice. The District will partner with PHS and the PPR to plant trees around schools while the District focuses on transforming these schoolyards into green and healthier play spaces.
