Even though the confetti hasn’t quite cleared from the Super Bowl parade (GO EAGLES!)—basketball fever is about to sweep the nation. Here are a few fun things to do after the game to help your child with reading:
- Play a game of “HORSE.” The first person to miss a shot gets a letter. After a few rounds, try spelling out harder words.
- Make your own mascot. Draw your character and write their story. Where are they from? What’s their favorite cheer?
- Dribble A to Z. Practice the alphabet while dribbling. Back to ‘A’ if you drop the ball.
- Beat the vocab shot clock. Set a timer and see how many words you can write together in 30 seconds. Try to beat your high score.
- Blaze through basketball bios. Head to your local library and check out a book on your favorite player. How about those 76ers?
Your child’s love of reading begins with you—and, as they say, teamwork makes the dream work.
