The Free Library is excited to share that many of the neighborhood libraries are providing access or service in their communities. Several libraries are open to the public for computer use, holds pickup, and reference services, in accordance with public health recommendations. The Free Library will continue to offer programs virtually for all ages. Check out guidelines for visits to libraries here.
The Free Library of Philadelphia is also excited to share a resource that supports middle school students and their families with the School District of Philadelphia’s Find Your Fit – 2021-22 School Selection. Philly High School Choice is a free, online one-stop tool for youth looking to explore their options in their high school search. The program matches their priorities, such as going to a school with a high graduation rate, with high schools that fit their needs. Philly High School Choice serves as a complementary tool to other high school fit resources.
As many of us are still adjusting to doing much virtually and through the computer, we know it can be a bit overwhelming to sort through what is available. The Free Library has created a terrific guide, entitled Digital Resources for Students, Educators, and Caregivers. It gives a great overview of what digital resources are available, which to turn to when, who the ideal user is, and how to access each or learn more. Of course, nothing beats a little hands-on exploration, so with just your library card and a little bit of time, why not poke around to see what’s around? Don’t have a library card? Apply right now for a FREE card and a PIN and have access to over 100 databases and digital resources including ebooks, audiobooks, movies, TV shows, and music.
Additionally, sign up for the Fall Reading Challenge. This flexible program – available for all ages, from babies to grown-ups – allows you to keep track of books read and/or the amount of time spent reading; gives you a place to write book reviews, and allows you to earn badges and certificates for completing various activities. Kicking off last month and going through early December, this month we’ll be introducing a series of shorter, themed mini-challenges, to help you diversify your reading and learning.
