Fall is flying by and Academic Parent Teacher Teams are fully underway! This year, the FACE Office is partnering with nine schools to pilot Academic Parent Teacher Teams (APTT) in their Kindergarten through 3rd grade classrooms.
The awesome nine schools participating are:

The Fall Team Meetings took place at the end of October, with hundreds of families turning out to the nine pilot schools, eager to become stronger partners in their children’s education. Team meetings occur three times a year (Fall, Winter, and Spring) and are 75 minutes long. Families and the teacher come together to learn about grade-level academics their child has and will be encountering this school year. At-home learning practices, games, and information are modeled for families and they are given time to practice the techniques with other families in a non-judgmental space. All of this prepares the families to better engage with their children’s education at home.
Michelle Lopez, a mother of a second grader at J.H. Brown, felt like the experience of the Fall Team meeting was unique from traditional parent-teacher conferences in that she felt supported by the fact that other parents and families had the same questions that she did. That’s a win for Principal Arthurea Smith, whose desired outcomes for families and teachers are pretty simple: “Data, support, information, ideas!”
After the Fall Team Meetings, families will have individual sessions with their child’s teacher to further develop relationships, get personalized feedback and support, and plan for their child’s success for the rest of the school year.
