The Office of Family and Community Engagement has 20 staff members, called Family Engagement Liaisons, who are the field staff who promote family engagement and involvement at every single School District of Philadelphia school. Liaisons are already in full swing, facilitating Family Workshops, assisting School Advisory Councils (SACs), and supporting Fall Title I meetings at their assigned schools. These family engagement activities increase families’ capacity to help with accomplishing their children’s academic goals. All families and community stakeholders are encouraged to attend as part of developing their partnership with their school community!
We always want you to know about additional supports your school has in the form of the Family and Community Engagement Liaison:
- Organizing and facilitating family engagement programs such as workshops and activities based on parent needs
- Addressing family concerns including: supporting conflict resolution and mediation, addressing difficult issues and concerns you may have in relation to your student education, and school climate
- Answering inquiries about district wide policies and school based implementation
- Providing Volunteer Programs support to families, community members, and school staff
- Registering families on Parent Portal for school selection process or checking student academic records (i.e. students grades and attendance)
- Assisting with community mapping: building partnerships and identifying community resources
- Assisting with building and supporting a School Advisory Council (SAC)
Family Engagement Liaisons are a great resource for all families, from the newest parent at the school to a grandmother who has been volunteering at a school for 25 years! Liaisons understand the importance of providing opportunities for our parents to be more actively involved in their child’s education. This begins by making school a welcoming environment and creating an easy path for parents to gain the supports they need.
We hope you will take the time to identify and get to know your school’s Family Engagement Liaison for the 2018-2019 School Year!
