Joana Díaz is an Educational Technology Specialist for the School District of Philadelphia. Previously, she was a bilingual teacher, primarily in the Latino community, including at an International Baccalaureate® World School, where she served as a teacher mentor coach for the Teacher Advancement Program. In addition, she was a Project Manager and professional development trainer for Foundations, Inc., working with educational organizations all over the United States, and a supervisor of afterschool programs. Here, she co-authored Global Graffiti Wall, a guide for educators to bring global learning into classrooms. In this role, Joana presented at conferences and for school districts all over the United States, including PA Governor’s Institute, 21st Century Summer Institute, Beyond School Hours Conference, National Afterschool Association Conference, School’s Out Washington, After School All-stars in Los Angeles, and Citizen Schools Boston with the Mott Foundation. She also provided Technical Assistance for the City of San Antonio for the Making Connections Initiative with the Annie E. Casey Foundation.

She is a proud product of the School District of Philadelphia, having attended J.R. Masterman Middle School and George Washington High School. She graduated from West Chester University with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, La Salle University with a Master’s degree in Bilingual/Bicultural Studies. Joana also holds a certificate in Strategic Leadership in Education from the University of Pennsylvania, and a certificate in Genealogical Research from Boston University.

Joana currently serves on the Executive Committee of Taller Puertorriqueño, and on the Board of the National Council of Puerto Rican Women as well as a mentor for the Urban Technology Project within The School District of Philadelphia. She previously served on the Steering Committee for the Equity Coalition, on the Central Office Advisory Group for the Strategic Plan Accelerate Philly, as well as a 3-year term on the Board of Trustees for Independence Charter School.
