All 7 School District of Philadelphia DECA District 10 chapters in attendance experienced success at the PA DECA state leadership development conference which took place at the Hershey Lodge in Hershey PA from February 22th to the 24th.
Over 2700 high school student competed for the chance to advance to the international competition which will be held in Orlando, Florida in April. DECA is an organization for high school students interested in a career in Hospitality, Marketing, Finance, Business, or Entrepreneurship.
Central High School, the only non-CTE school in attendance, was awarded 7 medals. In addition, student Una Liu won a 3rd place trophy in the Principles of Business Management event. Una will advance to the International Conference where over 20,000 students from all over the world will convene to determine the best in the World in each event. Medal winners included: Bernice Yun for Marketing Communications and Laurie Ou for Principles of Business Administration..
Roxborough High School attended the state conference for the first time with 10 students. Sahavae Fields-Palmore, a sophomore, took home a medal for PFL-Personal Financial Literacy. Other members participated in the Job Interview, Speech Competition and Modeling.
Kensington High School’s Sanaa Bey, a senior was a triple medallion winner and took home a medal for highest test score, highest role play A, and highest role play B.
From Edison High School, sophomore Marisol Valencia took home a medal for highest test score in Principles of Marketing, an event for first time competitors. The squad will attend the international conference and attend leadership seminars.
Lincoln High School took home 11 medals: Brianna Lowe, sophomore, Business Finance Series was a triple medallion winner. In addition, Nahima Khan, Principals of Finance was a double medallion winner. Vince Hu, Junior for Business Law and Ethics Team Decision Making was also a double medallion winner, and Financial Services Team Decision Making- double medallion winners the team of Nicole Jin and Jarai Jalloh for Financial Services. The squad achieved gold certification for the School Based Enterprise earlier in the year.
George Washington High School’s Dimurod Djuraev took home a 3rd place trophy for Job Interview. The squad also took home 21 medals: Aleksi Valeeva was a triple medallion winner in Hotel and Lodging Management. Also bringing home hardware were Diyora Rakhimova – Principles of Hospitality and Tourism – High Role Play, Adetutu Osinloye – Principles of Hospitality and Tourism – High Role Play
Durian Burke – Buying and Merchandising Team Decision Making – High Role Play
Jamshid Tillaev – Buying and Merchandising Team Decision Making – High Role Play
Nozima Abdurahmonova – Entrepreneurship Team Decision Making – High Role Play
Safina Farhodova – Entrepreneurship Team Decision Making – High Role Play
Zarina Madorifova – Entrepreneurship Team Decision Making – High Role Play
Durdona Marajabova – Entrepreneurship Team Decision Making – High Role Play
Umida Abduraimova – Travel and Tourism Team Decision Making – High Role Play
Jahonoro Abdurakhimova – Sports and Entertainment Team Decision Making – High Role Play
Double medallion winners included: Steve Mathew – Marketing Management Team Decision Making, Muhammed Kamilov – Marketing Management Team Decision Making, Nilufar Tokhirova – Sports and Entertainment Team Decision Making, and Samira Sirojitdinova – Travel and Tourism Team Decision Making.
Northeast High School, took home the most awards with 54 medals, 2 trophies, and 2 scholarships. Moataz Hamayel won 3rd place for the squads Chapter Awards presentation and Emilio Tibert won 2nd place for Job Applications.
Triple medallion winners included: Benjamin Martinez, William Grant, Jiaqi Zhuang, Daniel Xenophontos, Julian Carrion, Losene Sesay, and Carolos Viloria.
Double medallion winners included: Denzel Perez who also won a $1,000 scholarship, Marcus Tibert, Dominic Naimoli, Anna Chen, Cristina Bazylski, Rodnie Torres, Naraly Giron, Firdavs Kadirov, Faisal Al-Ali, Jerry Palapa, Bashar Ghazi, and Jeremey Pena.
Single Medallion winners included: Amy Khuu, Cynthia Nhean, Ahmed Ghazi, Maya Carrassquillo, Isaiah Moore, Bianca Jones, and Marsha Tibert.
Jalyn Jaquez-Reys won a $500 scholarship.
Chelsea Vinas was inducted as the new PA District 10 representative. She was elected at the District 10 leadership development conference at Temple University in December. Her first order of duty will be to attend the summer planning session in June.
