Dear School District of Philadelphia Community,

Last week, I provided an update about the District’s upcoming parent and family engagement initiatives. As a direct follow up, today I am excited to announce that the application for the Parent & Guardian Advisory Council is now open!

The Parent & Guardian Advisory Council (PGAC) is a monthly engagement forum where parents, guardians, and caretakers from across the District can regularly connect with me and other District leadership to discuss experiences, uplift successes, present concerns, and at times, share feedback on District initiatives and Accelerate Philly strategic actions. The Council will champion family engagement in their school communities by sharing information, best practices, District news, and initiatives.

Visit the Parent & Guardian Advisory Council website to submit your application today! The application will close on April 11, 2025.

The PGAC will be composed of 50 parents, guardians, and caretakers who represent every Learning Network and Philadelphia zip code, and who reflect the racial, linguistic, ethnic, gender, and economic diversity of the School District and the City. Applicants must have at least one student currently enrolled in a School District of Philadelphia public school, should be able to commit to monthly meetings from September through May and be willing to collaborate with District staff and fellow PGAC members.. More information about the Council can be found on the PGAC website.

We hope that you will consider applying for the council, and partnering with the District to inform our future progress. Working together, with parents and families as our partners, we can prepare every student to imagine and realize any future they desire and become the fastest-improving, large urban public school district in the nation.

In partnership,

Tony B. Watlington Sr., Ed.D.
Superintendent
The School District of Philadelphia
