Brooklyn Jamison
Mastbaum 11th Grade Student
Brooklyn Jamison is an 11th grade student at Jules E. Mastbaum High School, a vocational technical school within the School District of Philadelphia and a member of the 9th Grade Success Network (9GSN). Brooklyn is an engaged student who enjoys cheer, track and field, and wants to try out for the flag football team this year. As an 11th grade student, she is already considering college prospects and beginning to envision her future beyond Mastbaum.
Just three years ago, Brooklyn was a new 9th grader at Mastbaum, learning to navigate high school academics and social life for the first time. When she had challenges with her friend group in her first year, Brooklyn had a supportive group of her teachers and administrators to support her through her struggles. “I wouldn’t be at Mastbaum without them,” she said. “They always make time to listen to my problems and do what they can to help.”
As a student-athlete, Brooklyn noted how important it is to stay on top of her schoolwork. Despite how involved she is, Brooklyn shared that she finds it easy to balance school with her sports – “I can’t be a student-athlete without being a student first,” she said. Her own discipline, as well as the support of her Mastbaum family, has allowed Brooklyn to manage her time effectively and succeed as both a student and an athlete.
When asked about her plans beyond high school, Brooklyn is excited for college and her ultimate career. “I’ve narrowed down my top colleges to Temple, Howard, and LSU,” she said. “I’m interested in real estate – I grew up watching people come up in their own business and want to do the same.” Brooklyn’s hard work, commitment, and her Mastbaum support system of teachers and administrators are setting her up for a bright future ahead.
