Dear School District of Philadelphia Families,

The School District of Philadelphia is in the initial stages of developing the Academic Calendars for the next two years (school years 2025-2026 and 2026-2027). Our goal is to create calendars that support student learning and meet the needs of students, families and staff, while adhering to the educational requirements mandated by the Pennsylvania Department of Education and various Collective Bargaining Units. We cannot effectively achieve that goal without your feedback!

I invite all students, families, staff, community members, and other School District of Philadelphia stakeholders to complete the Academic Calendar Feedback Survey, which is open now! Access the survey by clicking this link or by visiting www.philasd.org and clicking on the link in the green banner.

The purpose of the survey is to provide stakeholders an opportunity to understand the restrictions and requirements for academic calendars, review possible versions of academic calendars for the next two years, and to share feedback on those options. The survey responses will be reviewed closely by an Academic Calendar Committee composed of District staff, school principals, and union leaders. While we will not be able to incorporate every individual piece of feedback in the final calendars, the committee will consider all responses from the calendar survey and additional engagement sessions that will take place, in order to develop calendars that are equitable and meet our required parameters.

The School District of Philadelphia remains committed to partnering with families, and to transparently sharing the results of our collaboration. You can learn more about the process for developing the academic calendars, and view upcoming reports summarizing the results of the calendar survey by visiting our Academic Calendar website. Please return to the website regularly over the next several months, as more information will be added as the calendar committee does its work. The final calendar proposals will be presented to, and voted on by the Board of Education in January 2025.

Thank you for our partnership and for taking the time to complete the Academic Calendar Feedback Survey!

In partnership,

Tony B. Watlington Sr., Ed.D.
Superintendent
The School District of Philadelphia
