Statement on Educational Opportunities for Families Report

On Friday, November 16, 2018, the School District of Philadelphia issued the following statement regarding the Educational Opportunities for Families report:

“Families value the many school options offered in Philadelphia and school choice is one of our city’s strengths.  The report, and the information we’ve independently collected, shows that all families and students want to know more about how to access the many options that are available.  Barriers in the process do not benefit students and we know, from other research reports, that barriers impact African American, Hispanic and low income families the most.

With this in mind, we are committed to exploring what we can do to ensure all families can participate in school selection and increase the equity, efficiency and transparency of the selection process. We want to work collaboratively with others to make school selection better for families in Philadelphia.”
