Dear School District of Philadelphia Families,

I am writing to provide you with an important update regarding the nationwide USDA-mandated recall of BrucePac food mentioned in our communication last week that may have affected your children because your child attends a Pre-K or K-12 site at the School District of Philadelphia.

I am happy to report that Whitsons’ Chicken & Broccoli Alfredo Penne, Chicken Strips Honey Mustard Green Beans, and Chicken Caribbean Pineapple Sauce Rice Carrots served between September 23, 2024, and October 10, 2024, were not among the suspected meals that tested positive, though they were produced in the same facility during the focused time frame.

As part of its routine safety reviews following recalls, the USDA conducted a two-day Food Safety Assessment (FSA) at two of Whitsons’ facilities where the product was produced, and the USDA reports that they found Whitsons’ facilities to be in compliance with all applicable food safety regulations and standards.

Fortunately, according to the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Division (FSIS), there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions to those meals.

Out of an abundance of caution, the District’s Office of Food Services has removed all items from all school meal services. Your child will not be served items from the affected batch of Whitsons’ products moving forward. If you have any questions, please email recallnotification101024@philasd.org.

Thank you for your support as we have worked to address this nationwide USDA-mandated recall. Our top priority is the health and safety of our students, as we remain committed to providing safe and nutritious meals.

Sincerely,

Oz Hill
Interim Deputy Superintendent of Operations
