Anita Romano, a Computer Science Teacher from Northeast High School, was recognized with the Sustained Impact Award at the 5th annual CS4Philly 2024 CS Teacher Awards celebration on May 30, 2024. Anita’s efforts to expand young women’s access to computer science have contributed to her school earning an AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award this year, and she and her students recently presented to the College Board on advocating for women in computing.

Raheem Chowdhury of Olney High School and Erik Weissmann of Palumbo Academy were also recognized as runners-up for the Early Achievement and Sustained Impact Awards respectively.  Nick Imparato from the non-profit organization Launchpad was honored with the Early Achievement Award.

Currently, 27 high schools and 112 elementary and middle schools offer Computer Science courses to students.  In High School, students learn Computer Science in courses such as Computer Science Principles or Computer Science A. In grades K-8, The Digital Literacy & Technology Course prepares students with the fundamentals of Computer Science to take CS courses at the high school level.

The CS Teacher Awards were founded by CS4Philly and are presented in partnership with CSTA Philly and Jumpstart Philly CS for All.
