SDP Baseball Coach Fighting Cancer Returns to Disney Spring Training
Philadelphia high school baseball coach Juan Namnun and his team returned to Disney Spring Training at Walt Disney World Resort for the first time since his fight with breast cancer. Namnun and his Frankford High School baseball team also shared a special moment with Mickey Mouse while celebrating their 15th visit to Disney Spring Training at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex on Thursday.
Namnun was diagnosed with breast cancer in June 2022. During his fight, the 44-year-old father and teacher worked to raise awareness of the disease in men. Several high-profile organizations and news outlets recognized Namnun for his efforts, including ABC’s Good Morning America, which surprised him with tickets to the World Series last October.
After undergoing chemotherapy treatments and a double mastectomy, Namnun learned that his cancer was in full remission on December 23, 2022. The new diagnosis also meant his team could return to Disney Spring Training for the first time since 2020. Namnun said this is the first trip to Walt Disney World Resort for most of the players on the team. The seven-day visit includes a day at Magic Kingdom Theme Park.
Frankford High School’s baseball squad is one of dozens of teams participating in Disney Spring Training this year. The event at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex hosts youth baseball and softball teams from around the country as they prepare for their upcoming seasons.
