Good Afternoon,

Today, the Board of Education announced the 3 finalists being considered to serve as the next Superintendent of the School District of Philadelphia. They are:

John L. Davis Jr., Chief of Schools, Baltimore City Public Schools
Krish Mohip, Deputy Education Officer, Illinois State Board of Education
Tony B. Watlington Sr., Ed.D., Superintendent, Rowan-Salisbury Schools

You can read their full bios at philasd.org/schoolboard/search.

As shared yesterday, from Monday, March 14 – Wednesday, March 16, each finalist will spend a day here in Philadelphia to participate in public meetings and events with key community stakeholders, including in person and live-streamed meetings with students, teachers, principals, parents and guardians. I invite you to visit philasd.org/schoolboard/search to see the full schedule.

Each finalist’s visit will culminate in an individual public town hall from 6-7 p.m. at the School District’s North Broad Street headquarters, moderated by WHYY reporter Cherri Gregg. To ensure accessibility, the town halls will be live-streamed via Facebook and the School District’s website, and language interpretation services will be available by request. An ASL interpreter will also be present. As part of the Board’s commitment to ensuring that both virtual and in-person attendees have a meaningful town hall experience, all attendees will have the opportunity to suggest a question for the finalists. Per the School District of Philadelphia’s updated COVID-19 guidelines, masks are optional and are not required. Registration is required for in-person attendance and seating is first come, first serve. No registration is required to watch the town halls online.

I hope you will join us virtually or in-person next week.

Sincerely,

Leticia Egea-Hinton
Vice-President
Board of Education
School District of Philadelphia
